The Use of Word Square Game on Students Vocabulary Enrichement
Vocabulary is important to be improved in language learning process. The
students still find difficulty when they learn vocabulary. This research aimed to
investigate whether Word Square Game affects students’ vocabulary enrichment
or not. The researcher used quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent
control group design. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Cibadak. The
population of the research is eight-grade with 60 students being taken as the
sample. The researcher uses simple random sampling using a lottery system.
Some statistical calculations are done to analyze the data and the t-test formula is
applied to get the final result. Based on the data calculation, the t-test value is
6.187 at a significant level of 0.05 is 1.67, with the d.f 58. It shows that the value
of the t-calculated is higher than the t-table (6.187>1.67). It means that the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an effect
of using Word Square Game on students' vocabulary enrichment. It is because the
students can memorize the word easier. After all, they can get meaning by finding
the words’ synonyms and antonyms. They can find adjective vocabulary in
descriptive text. The researcher concludes that the Word Square Game can affect
the students’ vocabulary enrichment. Therefore, it can be inferred that Word
Square Game can be used for teaching vocabulary.
