Students Strategies in Comprehending a Journal Article
Reading is a skill that makes the readers get new information and
knowledge. However, students' reading skill are still low and poor.
This can impact students who need help comprehending the text's
whole meaning well, especially for academic materials that usually
have long paragraphs. A journal article also belongs to academic
material that will be useful for students. Reading a journal article will
only enrich the students' knowledge if they know suitable strategies
for reading a journal article. This research aimed to investigate reading
strategies that are applied by students when they comprehend a journal
article. This research attempted to answer the following research
question: “What are students’ strategies in comprehending a Journal
Article?”. The participants of this research were 30 students of 5th
semester in English Language Education Study Program, Pakuan
University. The writer used qualitative research with a descriptive
method. The data were collected through questionnaire, interview, and
focus group discussion. Based on all of the data, the writer classified
the findings by looking at the frequency, the most frequent strategy
applied by students is problem-solving strategies, then followed by
support reading strategies, and the last is global reading strategies.
