Students' Perspective Toward The Use Of Short Educational Video In Learning Narrative Text
ix
ABSTRACT
Students’ perspective on receiving and providing information are closely related to
cognitive processes, particularly the ability to interpret through Decode
Significance within the cognitive domain. Interpretation in this domain, especially
Decode Significance, involves the ability to detect, notice, and describe
informational content. These aspects are explored through specific elements of short
educational video, such as subtitles, character expressions, and voice intonation, in
the context of learning narrative texts. This study aims to understand how grade XII
students at SMAN 1 Dramaga interpret their experiences and understanding of short
educational video in their learning process. The findings reveal that students’
perspectives within the cognitive domain, particularly on Decode Significance,
focusing on the ability to detect, notice, and describe informational content, are
significantly supported by specific elements of short educational video. Subtitles
help overcome language barriers, clarify narrative details, and focus attention on
key information. Character expressions and gestures enhance emotional
engagement and provide insights into the characters’ emotional dynamics. Voice
intonation signals emotional shifts, aids in conflict resolution, and enriches
understanding of the story’s overall flow. These elements collectively help students
identify important information, focus on details, and explain the story more
effectively. This study highlights the value of short educational video as powerful
tools for enhancing students’ understanding of narrative texts.
