The Use Of Mobile Assisted Language Learning On Students Pronunciation

Waldia, Delfi/031115058 - Nama Orang;

The aim of this research is to find the effect of using Mobile Assisted Language
Learning on Students’ Pronunciation. Pronunciation ability is one of elements of
English that should be mastered by the students because the students are expected
to be able to carry out conversation with others using correct pronunciation.
Unfortunately, the students get difficulties in pronouncing words with correct stress
and intonation. For that reason, they need an appropriate technique in learning
English to help their pronunciation ability. The research was conducted to the
second grades students of SMK PGRI 3, Bogor. There are 24 students from class
11 Office Administration-1 taken as the sample by random sampling using lottery
system out of 62 students as the population of the research. In conducting this
research, the writer applied pre-experimental as the method with one group pre-test
post-test design. She gave a pre-test, three treatments and a post-test to the students.
Oral test is given to measure the students’ ability in pronunciation. The data are
analyzed by using t-test formula. From calculating the data, she found the t-test
value 14.11, meanwhile the t-table value is 2.069 at the significant level 0.5 with
the degree of freedom (dƒ) 23. It is found that the t-calculated is higher than t-table
(14.11>2.069). It means the value of t-table is lower than the t-test. So, it can be
concluded that an alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis
(Ho) is rejected. In other words, The Use of Mobile Assisted Language Learning
affects students’ pronunciation.
