Students' Difficulties in Constructing Conditional Sentence Type III

ABSTRACT
The paper entitles “Students’ Difficulties in Constructing Conditional Sentence
Type III” is aimed to find out students’ difficulties in constructing conditional
sentence type III. To conduct the research, the writer applies descriptive method to
describe the students’ difficulty in constructing conditional sentence. The research
was conducted to the twelfth-grade students majoring in science as the participants.
Purposive sampling was used to conduct this research and took only one class who
had lower achievement in conditional sentence task. The writer used three
instruments including documentation, questionnaire, and interview. The
documentations are taken from students’ worksheet and students’ score. Students’
worksheet was used to find out their mistakes in constructing conditional sentence
type II. While students’ scores was used to determine how many students are chosen
as the participants. Questionnaire are distributed to 12 students who get less than
60 point for score in conditional sentence task and the interview is also done to the
teacher who teaches conditional sentences. The research finding shows that the
students get difficulties in constructing conditional sentence type III. The writer
finds out four types of students’ difficulties namely difficulty in form, difficulty in
meaning, difficulty in time-tense relationship and difficulty in syntactic structure.
The result shows that the syntactic structure is the most difficulty experienced by
the students in constructing conditional sentence type III
