Picture-Cued storytelling On Students Speaking Ability
Speakingisoneofthemostimportantskillswhichisusuallyusedto
communicatewitheachother.Peoplecannotshareinformationand
expressideastopublicwithoutspeaking.However,somestudents
haveproblemssuchaslowinterest,boredom,andlessparticipation
withintheprocessoflearningEnglishintheclass.Therefore,they
need some interesting techniques which can be used to revive
classroom activity,and one ofthe techniques is Picture-Cued
Storytellingtechnique.Theaim ofthisresearchistoinvestigatethe
effectofPicture-CuedStorytellingtechniqueonstudents’speaking
ability.TheresearchisconductedtothefirstgradestudentsofSMK
InformatikaBinaGenerasiinBogor.Thereare35studentsfrom class
XMM Awhicharetakenasthesamplebyusingpurposiverandom
samplingtechnique.Inconductingthisresearch,thewriterappliespre
experimentalasamethodonegrouppre-testpost-testasthedesign.
Thewritergivespre-test,fourtreatmentsandapost-testto the
samplesto findoutthestudents’speakingability.Thedataare
analyzedbyusingt-testformula.Basedonthedatacalculation,itis
foundthatthevalueoft-testis25.3;meanwhilethevalueofttableis
1.69atsignificantlevelof0.05withthedegreeoffreedom (df)of34.
Itisshownthattcalcultedishigherthanttable(25.3>1.69).Itmeansthat
alternativehypothesis(Ha)isacceptedandnullhypothesis(Ho)is
rejected.Thus,Picture-CuedStorytellingtechniqueaffectsstudents
speakingability.
