Students Lexical Errors In Writing Descriptive Text
Based on curriculum 2013, in Junior high school there are varieties kinds of texts
which are learned; one of them is descriptive text. In writing text, there are many
aspects that should be considered by the students, for example lexical choice.
Lexical choice can have a significant impact for making the writing become good
and effective. In order for knowing the students’ ability in choosing the lexical,
the students’ and teacher have to know the students’ lexical error for preventing
the same error happens. Therefore, lexical error analysis is needed. This present
research focuses on analyzing the types of the students' lexical errors and the
cause of those errors which was conducted by using qualitative method and
descriptive analysis. This research was conducted at SMP Perintisan 4 Gunung
Puteri, there were 20 Students' from the 8th grade as the respondents who were
selected by using purposive sampling. In this research, three instruments are used;
documentation, questionnaire, and interview. The results show that there are still
borrowing, calque, misspelling, misselection, and semantic confusion errors. In
addition, most of the errors are caused by the intralingual error. From that data, it
can be concluded that the students’ still have difficulty in choosing the lexical and
the researcher recommends that the teaching-learning process should be improved
in order to reduce the similar lexical errors.
