The Use of Free Writing Technique on Students Ability to Write Recount Text : A Research Conducted to the First Grade Students of SMA 1 Cigudeg
Writing is a complex process involving many different but important elements for students of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The purpose of this study was to know the effect of applying the freewriting approach to recount text writing in class X SMA 1 Cigudeg. The sample used in this study was 60 students, who were selected through cluster sampling and divided into two classes, namely, experiment and control. The method used in this research is quantitative and a quasi-experimental design. The instrument used in this study was a writing test given in two parts, namely, a pretest and a posttest. The results of this study using a t-test. The results show that there is no effect of using freewriting techniques on making text recounts. Based on the results obtained, the t-count is 0.37, while the t-table has a significant value of 0.05, which is 1.67, while the significance value of 0.01 is 2.39, which means that the t-counting is lower than the t-table. So that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is not accepted. This applies that free writing technique there is no significant effect on students' ability to write recount text.
