The Use Powtoon On Students' Ability To Write A Descriptive Text: A Narrative Inquiry

Writing is one of the four skills in English subject, and it is also one of the
communication tools in which students express their ideas, thoughts, and feelings in
written text. Using audio-visual as a tool in the learning process is needed to support
the teacher in conveying the material. The teacher can use this media in classroom
activities. PowToon is one of the media that is suitable for teaching. It is web-based
software that presents the material with feature animation, such as cartoon pictures
and transition effects. This research aimed to investigate the advantages and the
disadvantages of using PowToon in teaching descriptive text. The respondents were
10 Science 1 at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Kota Bogor. The researcher used
qualitative research with a narrative inquiry. She used documentation (reflective
journal), questionnaire, and interview as the instruments. Based on the data, it showed
that the advantages of PowToon as teaching media made the learning process
interesting, happy, fun, it could motivate students to learn, understandable, and it did
not make students bored,. However, the researcher found out the disadvantages of this
media that some students experienced the sound of the video was unclear. They could
not hear what the speaker was saying. In addition, the duration of the video was fast.
Therefore, they still need an explanation from the teacher.
