Students Perception on the Difference Between Novel and Movie of Gulliver's Travel
Novels and movies are examples of literary work. A novel is a fictional story that
includes a lengthy narrative or prose that describes the plot, setting, and
characters. However, not everyone enjoys reading as much because reading skill
is required. As a result, some directors are attempting to adapt novels into movies.
Ordinary people watch movies when they are unable to read or comprehend
novels. Moreover, when a movie is adapted from a novel, it goes through
development, which may result in differences being presented. Thus, this research
is focused on the students’ perceptions on the difference between novel and movie
of Gulliver’s Travel. The aim in conducting this study is to analyze students’
perceptions on the difference between novel and movie versions of Gulliver’s
Travel. This research attempted to answer the following research question: “How
are students’ perceptions on the difference between the novel and movie versions
of Gulliver’s Travel?”. The respondents of this study were 56 students in
Literature class. The researcher used qualitative research with a descriptive
method. The data were collected through questionnaire, interview with students,
and lecturer. Based on all the data, students had positive and negative perceptions,
for positive perceptions, students perceived that the differences between the novel
and the movie could occur because of the adaptation of ideas that were developed.
Despite those positive perceptions, students in literature class also have negative
perceptions the differences shown affect the students in the story's meaning
because the differences could convey different messages. The differences shown

movie were suitable materials to study in this literature class. It can be concluded,
with the difference those students' perceptions differ depending on what they feel
and receive
