A NARRATIVE INQUIRY ON THE STUDENT’S PERCEPTION AND EXPERIENCE IN WRITING ESSAYS USING READING-TO-WRITE STRATEGY
Reading and writing are interrelated skills in learning English on account of reading
provides a model for writing. One of strategies that is practicable to help students
produce better writing is Reading-to-Write strategy. This strategy can make it easier
for writers to find ideas when writing essays. This study, aims to find out the
perceptions and experiences of students who have used Reading-to-Write strategy in
writing essays. The respondent of this study is a student in International High School
with the pseudonym Mawar. This study used qualitative research with the narrative
inquiry. It was employed questionnaire and in-depth interview to collect the data. Based
on the data, it shows that her perception from the cognitive of this strategy can help her
get ideas, in the affective, this strategy makes her excited because it can improve her
reading habit and in the psychomotor she applies this strategy to write essays in daily
activities. In addition, on the indicator of life situations, the first time she used this
strategy she had difficulty paraphrasing every sentence that she found, on the indicator
of contemporary experience, she currently consistently writes essays using thesaurus
dictionary to make it easier to find similar words and reflect on meaning in the future,
she believes that if she uses this strategy consistently then she will become a good
writer.
