Students Difficulties in Learning Academic Writing Through Google Meet
In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, students of the academic year 2018 in
ELESP, Pakuan University experienced online learning. This may lead to a
different result of the study compared to studying offline. The purpose of this study
is to find out the difficulties students face in Academic Writing lessons which are
carried out online at home. This research applies descriptive method. The research
findings show students have difficulties to understand the lecturer’s explanation
because it is hard to get a stable internet network, to do the assignments given by
the lecturer, and to have discussion with friends. In addition, some students
experience semantic barriers due to misunderstanding in interpreting messages
during discussions. As a result, it is difficult for them to understand learning
material particularly the introduction section. In conclusion, most students have
difficulties in technical difficulties during studying Academic Writing through
Google Meet and it affected their motivation and how they did the assignment.
Students have a difficulty in learning Academic Writing through Google Meet is
when a student have a video conference with their lecturer at home during pandemic
with online learning a student get bad signal and also when have a discussion with
friend get a misunderstanding because a student do not understand about a lesson
that have lecturer explanation. Also, student not read references from their lecturer
before begin a class, and then student still confused with writing in a lesson
Academic Writing. For solve this problem a student must study hard for get a
knowledge in a lesson Academic Writing.
