Exploring The Expereriences Of A students Using ted Talks videos for public speaking: A Narrative Inqury
TED Talks videos are collection of inspiring and informative videos that provide
speakers to share their own personal stories, thoughts, and experiences. This
research aims to explore the student’s experiences in using TED Talks videos for
public speaking. The respondent of this research was a student in MAN 2 Cianjur
who was given the pseudonym Erlina. This research used qualitative approach and
narrative inquiry as a method. This research used two instruments namely reflective
journal and semi-structured interview with in-depth interview to collect the data.
Based on the data, it shows that her past experiences in cognitive knowledge
domain. The first time she knew TED Talks videos through her father's
recommendation and became interested in using them to be referenced. In
psychomotor knowledge domain, her speech was monotonous before knowing TED
Talks videos. She applied memorized delivery and informative speech using TED
Talks videos for the first time and she won the speech contests. Her present
experiences in cognitive knowledge domain. Using TED Talks videos helps her in
conveying messages and interacting with the audiences. She feels happy to deliver
informative speech and consistently uses TED Talks videos until now. In
psychomotor knowledge domain, her speeches are often inspired from education
themes. She also has learned voice articulation, voice intonation, eye contact, facial
expressions, and hand movements through TED Talks videos and implemented it
into her personal passion and academic. Her future expectations in cognitive
knowledge domain. She believes using TED Talks videos for public speaking
makes her a good speaker and she has planning to recommend it to others. In
psychomotor knowledge domain, she will participate in other speech contests.
