THEUSE OF ROLE PLAY AND READ ALOUD ON STUDENTS' SPEAKING ABILITY
Speaking is used for communication it is one of the basic language abilities have to
be mastered by English foreign learners. Students have lack of confident in
communication. Therefore, this research aims to know the significance effect of
role play and read aloud on students’ speaking ability and to know the different
results gained between experimental class and control class on students’ speaking
ability. Moreover, in this research the researcher used speaking practice by using
role play and read aloud to know from each technique has a significance effect on
students’ speaking ability, especially in pronunciation, fluency, comprehension.
This research used quantitative approach and quasi-experimental method with sixty
students of VIII grade were used a sample. They were divided into experimental
group and control group, the researcher used random sampling to make those class
be experimental group and control group then they were given pre-test and post-
test. Role play technique was used for experimental class and read aloud were used
for control class. The findings showed that there was a significance effect and
different result between role play and read aloud in the experimental and control
class. Therefore, the use of role play and read aloud technique can be concluded to
have an effect on students’ speaking ability but role play technique did a better
increase by seeing the result of the t-test (0.388) which is >0.05. After seen from all
the results of entire calculation, it is indicated there is any significance effect of
using role play and read aloud on students’ speaking ability and there is also the
different results gained by the students in the experimental class and control class
on students’ speaking ability.
