The Use of Instagram in Mediating Students' Writing Recount Text in senior High School

ABSTRACT
The title of this research is the use of Instagram in mediating students’ writing
recount text in senior high school. Writing is one of the four language skills in
learning English that must be mastered by the students. The students’ problem in
writing is also caused by the absence of media variations in learning. One of the
interesting media to teach writing is Instagram. Instagram is a photo-sharing
application that allows users to share their moments to public, the taking and
editing of pictures as well as the captions and feedback options. Therefore, the
question of this research is how does Instagram mediates students writing recount
text in senior high school. The purpose of this research is to describe Instagram
mediates students writing recount text in senior high school. This research
employed qualitative method and used documentation, questionnaires, and
interviews as research instruments. The respondents of this research were 31
students as research respondents taken from X SP 4 class at SMAN 1 Babakan
Madang. The results of this study are that many students have a positive
perception regarding Instagram mediating students in writing recount text.
Instagram also provides a lot of positive encouragement and motivation to
students and make it easier for students to publish recount text. Instagram feeds
feature makes students feel motivated in writing recount text, more creative in
making recount text more interesting. Not only that on Instagram, students also
can receive feedback from comments either on their strengths or weaknesses.
