Using Spotify and Trebel Music Applications on Students' Vocabulary Enrichment
Vocabulary enrichment is the process of improving someone’s vocabulary to
communicate more effectively, either in written or spoken form. However, some
students still face difficulty-using English because of their lack of vocabulary.
This research aims to investigate the effect of the Spotify and Trebel Music
applications on students’ vocabulary enrichment and find out which applications
between Spotify and Trebel Music show a higher effect on students’ vocabulary
enrichment. This research was conducted at MTs. Sirojul Wildan with the
population of eighth-grade students that involved two classes; VIII-A as the
experimental group and VIII-C as the control group, with each group consisting of
32 students. A quasi-experimental design was employed for this research. The
instrument of this research was 20 items of vocabulary-matching tasks. This
research data was collected through the pre- and post-tests that were analyzed
using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 26. The calculation result
shows that the T-test value is 2.596. Meanwhile, the T-table is 1.99897 at the
significance level of 0.05, and the degree of freedom (df) is 62. Based on the
result, the T-test value is higher than the T-table (2.596 > 1.99897). Moreover, the
N-Gain score of the experimental group was 0.4392, while the control group was
0.3204. It indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In conclusion,
both the Spotify and Trebel Music applications affect the students’ vocabulary
enrichment, however, the Spotify application has a higher effect.
