Teacher Strategies Used in Culinary Art Major to Improve Students' speaking Skill (A Study Conducted to Culinary Art students of Vocational School)
This research entitled, “Teacher Strategies Used in Culinary Art Major to
Improve Students’ Speaking Skills is aimed to investigate and to describe the
strategies used by the teacher to encourage students’ speaking skill. This
research is conducted in Culinary Art major at SMK Wikrama Bogor. The
participants in this research were chosen based on the characteristic of
strategies in improving students’ speaking skill. The writer uses qualitative
approach and descriptive method to get the data. The data were collected
using observation, interview, and documentation. From the results of data
analysis, it was found that the teacher applied Discovery Learning as a
learning method because the teacher did not provide learning material directly
to students, but rather providing stimulation the students could understand the
material conceptually and naturally. The teaching strategies used by the
teacher in teaching speaking in culinary art class were using a combined
strategy of Direct Method (No translation), Audio Lingual Method (Drilling,
Question and answer excersie), and Communicative Language Teaching
(Small group, Role play).
