The Use Of Tic Toe And Picture Cued Games In The Eighth Grade Of Junior High School In Comprehending Simple Present Tense
Tenses, for many students, is considered a difficult and unattractive subject.
There are many kinds of learning strategies to teach English Structure,
especially in the simple present tense. One of them is the use of game
strategy using the Tic Tac Toe and Picture Cued games technique. This
research aimed to know if is there any significant influence of using the Tic
Tac Toe and picture-cued games technique on students’ understanding of
Simple Present Tense. The researcher used a quasi-experimental method
with a nonequivalent control group design. This research was conducted at
SMP Islam Nuurushshibyan (Yapin) Cileungsi. The population of this
research, are four classes in the eighth grade which consist of 8-A to 8-B.
The number of samples is 64 students which are taken from two different
classes. One class is the experimental group, and the other one is the control
group. Some statistical calculations are done to analyse the data and the t-
test formula is applied to get the final result. H0 was declined if sig. ≥ α =
0.05 and Ha was accepted if sig. ≤ α = 0.05. Based on the calculation data
above, it obtained sig. (2-tailed) value or Ha = 0.000 which means that less
than ≤ α = 0.05. It means there was a significant difference between students
taught with Tic Tac Toe and Picture-Cued Games. Based on the explanation
above, the research concluded the students were more effective in the
experimental class which used the tic tac toe game in the simple present
tense.
