Learner's Experiences of Using English song for Autonomous Listenung: A narrative inqury
Listening is one of the English skills that plays a significant role in the acquisition of the
English language. The use of music and songs in the English language-learning classroom
is not new. It has been proven by many researchers that music and songs have become
effective ways in the English classroom. The aim of this research is to find out how
effective songs are as a medium for learning English, especially listening, based on real
experiences from participants who are students and are still learning listening skill. The
design of this research used a qualitative descriptive method. It was conducted in the
English Education Department of Pakuan University The data sources used for this research
such as informants and documents. The technique was using questionnaires and interviews.
The results of the questionnaire produced 17 respondents spread across 4 classes such as
4B, 6A. 6B and 8A. Based on the results of the questionnaire, it emerged that there were 2
respondents who got the maximum score available and became participants of the
interview. The data analysis used an interactive analysis method. Based on the results of
this research, English songs as a tool for learning listening skills can be highly effective.
Songs expose learners to authentic pronunciation, vocabulary, and cultural nuances. Songs
can provide repetitive exposure to language patterns, aiding in comprehension and
retention. Additionally, songs offer a fun and engaging way to practice listening, making
the learning process enjoyable and memorable.
