Lecturers' Starategies In Giving Feedback In Speaking
This research focuses on lecturers’ strategies in giving feedback in speaking class.
Qualitative data are gained from classroom observation, interview with the lecturers,
and interview with the students. The qualitative data are analyzed by assembling,
coding, and matching the data to the theory, building interpretations, and reporting
the outcomes. The result of the research shows that the lecturers use repetition
strategy, which is usually applied to correct grammatical error and
mispronounciation. Next, the lecturers use clarification request strategy when
correcting mispronunciation and to help the students to be aware of their errors and
understand the differences between the correct and incorrect utterance. The third is
explicit correction, which is helpful for students to correct their errors. By providing
the correct utterance, it helps the students correct their errors, also avoid to repeat
their errors in the future. The last is paralinguistic signal strategy, by using facial
expression in intention to make the students aware of their errors.
