Exploring Extensive Reading: Challanges Faced By The First Semester And The Sixth Semester Of Elesp Students.
This study investigates the challenges faced by the first-semester and the sixth-
semester students in selecting reading materials in doing Extensive Reading at the
English Language Education Study Program, Pakuan University. Extensive
Reading, defined as reading large amounts of material for pleasure and general
understanding, is crucial for developing language proficiency. However, students
often encounter challenges such as lack of interest, difficulty in finding relevant
materials, and unclear reading goals. Through a qualitative research approach, this
study aim to examine the specific challenges related to book selection and the
motivational factors influencing students' choices. The data was collected through
questionnaires and interviews, providing insights into students experiences and
preferences. The finding indicates that both groups of students face significant
challenges in selecting appropriate reading materials, with the first-semester
students struggling more due to lower proficiency levels and less experience in
reading extensively and the sixth students semester have more challenges in
achieving the book that relate their goal. The study concludes with
recommendations for educators to support students in overcoming these
challenges and fostering more engaging and effective Extensive Reading
environment. These recommendations include providing a wider variety of
reading materials, offering guidance on book selection, and creating a supportive
culture within the classroom. By addressing these issues, educators can enhance
students reading experience and contribute to their language development.
