Vocabulary Learning Strategies:a Comparative Study Of English And Non-English Students
Vocabulary is an important part of English skills that students must master. Thereefore, expanding the students' vocabulary is essential to learning English. The purpose of this research is to compare the vocabulary learning strategies of English and non-English students and to find out the strategies used by students. The participant of this reseach, English and non-English, are questionnaire and interview were given to students of english language education study program and biology education strudy program to obtain the data. The result of the study revealed that mostly English students used cognitive strategies, including memorizing 86,7%, amking list 63,3% and repeating wordss 66,7%. Meanwhile, metacognitive strategies included studying new words 83,7%, testing oneself by using word test to measure improvement 60%, and use english media 43,3%. On the other hand, non english students also used cognitive strategies as the highest rate, consiting of memorizing 76%, making list 70%, and repeating word 63,3% whilst metocognitive strategies, studying new words 75%, testing oneself by using word test to measure improvement 58,3% and use english media 36,7% It can be concluded that both English and non English students use cognitive strategies focusing on memorizing in their learning vocabulary
